When you buy a grave in our cemeteries, you do not actually purchase the property, rather you buy the right to be interred in the grave or columbarium niche you have selected. By purchasing interment rights, you also ensure that the property is protected and cared for now and in the future. You can read our Cemetery By-Law for more information about our cemeteries.
Interment Options
Choosing between burial and cremation is a personal decision. At the active cemeteries throughout the Municipality we provide three interment options:
- Standard Casket Burial
- Cremation Interment in a Columbarium Niche - *Only available at the Chesley and Tara Cemeteries
- Cremation Interment in Ground (plot)
Columbarium Information
The Municipality of Arran-Elderslie offers niches for sale in Columbarium's located at the Chesley Cemetery & Hillcrest Cemetery in Tara.
The columbarium's are permanent structures made up of niches where family members can place urns containing the ashes of cremated remains of love ones. There are currently a total of 72 niches available for sale at both cemeteries.
Cemetery Fees
The Bereavement Authority of Ontario requires the Municipality to format a price list in accordance with their requirements to assist with standardizing funeral and cemetery services throughout the province.
Our Cemetery fees are also available in our Fees and Charges By-Law.
To assist you through the pre-planning process and finalizing burial arrangements, please contact the Deputy Clerk.
