2026 Municipal Election

The next Municipal and School Board Election will take place in October 2026. Eligible voters in Arran-Elderslie will cast their ballots using a secure internet and telephone voting system, with voting open October 19 to October 26, 2026.

On October 26, 2026, residents and property owners will be able to cast their vote in the Municipal and School Board Elections from anywhere with internet access or telephone service. This means residents will have the ability to vote from the comfort of their own home, on-the-go, at the Municipal Office, or at the Voter Assistance Centres - more information on voter assistance and voting locations will be available in 2026. 

Eligible voters (residents and property owners) will elect several different positions including:
• Mayor (elected at-large);
• Deputy Mayor (elected at-large);
• Five (5) Ward Councillors;
• School Board Trustees

Once elected, members of Council serve a 4-year term. The current term of Council began in November 2022, and the next term of Council will commence in November 2026.

  • Nomination Period: Friday, May 1, 2026 (8:30am) to Friday, August 21, 2026 (2:00pm)
  • Third Party Registration: Monday, May 1, 2026 (8:30am) to Friday, October 23, 2026 (4:30pm)
  • Deadline for Withdrawal of Nominations: Friday, August 21, 2026 (2:00pm)
  • Voting Period: Voting begins on October 19, 2026 (10:00am) until Election Day
  • Election Day: Monday, October 26, 2026 (ends at 8:00pm)

To be an eligible elector in the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, on Election Day you must be:

  • A Canadian Citizen; and
  • At least 18 years of age; and
  • A resident of the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, or the owner or tenant of land in the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, or
  •  the spouse of an owner or tenant; and
  • Not prohibited from voting under any law.

To ensure your correct school support designation is provided to Elections Ontario, it should be reviewed and updated before June 1, 2026. Whether you own or rent your home, your property is linked to a school board, even if you do not have children attending school. Considering a run for municipal council? Before making a decision, get a clear and realistic understanding of what serving as an elected official truly involves.

This practical workshop explains how municipal government works, the roles and responsibilities of Council members, and the ethical and legal obligations of public office. Participants will also learn about campaign requirements, time and financial commitments, and the realities of public life.

Designed to equip participants with essential information and reflection tools to help decide whether public service is the right fit for them and prepares those who choose to run to do so responsibly and confidently.

This practical workshop explains:

As per sec. 88(9.1) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, the Clerk shall make the financial statements of the candidates who filed a nomination available to the public in electronic format.  Compliance Audit Committee Roles and Responsibilities

The role of the Compliance Audit Committee is to review and consider compliance audit applications received by an eligible elector who believes that a candidate or registered third party advertiser has contravened a provision of the Municipal Elections Act relating to election campaign finances.

The Compliance Audit Committee can:

  • consider applications for a compliance audit and therefore grant or reject audit requests within thirty days of receipt;
  • if an audit is granted, appoint an auditor and review the audit report;
  • decide whether legal proceedings shall be commenced following the results of an audit; and
  • decide whether to commence a legal proceeding against a contributor for an apparent contravention, if applicable.

 In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, the Clerk is to prepare a report and make it available to the public. The report is to advise on the compliance of candidates with regard to filing financial statements. The Clerk is also to make available the names of any candidates who have defaulted by not filing their financial statement by March 31, 2027 at 2:00 p.m.
